iPlay silicone nose pads

What makes our nose pads special for children’s eyewear?

It is very important for the correction lens to be placed accurately in front of the pupil centre, this is where they will be most effective. Children can spend large periods of time looking up, they are small and live in a world where most things are big, often looking up to learn!

We know that a child’s facial characteristics are not the same as an adult, for example the nasal bridge features are often lower, flatter and broader. That is why our frames feature a vertical pad positioning system, with pre-drilled holes allowing simple accurate pad positioning without compromising the frames strength.

Check the description of each stock model for the pad details. The part sizing is detailed below for your reference.

A = Distance between screw point centres (horizontal plane).

B = Distance between screw point centre and moulded pad arm centre (vertical plane).

C = Distance between pad centres as measured from the baring (contact) surface of the pad (horizontal plane).

D = Pad projection as measured from contact surface with the frame to the centre point of the baring (contact) surface of the pad (horizontal plane).

Application and use of the Z-04 bridge (small mono pad)

The Z-04 bridge works perfectly in early years eyecare. The child’s nasal crest is very low. This means the spectacle requires a bridge that is designed lower than the vertical centre point of the frame. The design of model 2808 does this perfectly. With lower bridge and temple features, incorporating our two-position fitting system we have fitted the Z-04 bridge to horizontal lens sizes 37, 39 and 41, typically fitting ages 1 – 5 years with a pad centre position of 15mm

Application and use of the Z-05 bridge (small split pad)

Facial characteristic change with the child’s growth. The distance between pad centres decreases with the emergence of the childs nasal structure. This is not true for all children, research has shown the development of a child’s facial characteristics vary depending on ethnicity and those with some congenital conditions, such as Down’s syndrome who experience increases in the distance between pad centres.

iPlay bridges are made from a durable yet mouldable material. To accommodate an expansive dispensing range. The optician can warm the pad gently and reshape the distance between pad centres to the appropriate width.

For ages 5 – 10 years iPlay frames are manufactured with horizontal lens sizes of 42 – 47mm. Each iPlay frame in this size range is fitted with the Z-05 bridge, accommodating the greatest parameters for dispensing.

Nose Pads Re-designed

Super Fit Z-06 (medium) and Z-19 (large) iPlay pads

iPlay are breaking down barriers in design and fitting.

Our 2025 release nose pads Z-06 and Z-19 are uniquely designed with an asymmetric height adjustment system.

Our ViBES  2801 and 2806 are fitted with the Z-19 large nose pad. Each pad uniquely features a 3 point adjustment, perfect to fit comfortably to any facial asymmetry or low crest.

All ViBES frames are supplied with a complimentary Z-06 bridge, with 2 individual pad height settings to enhance your dispensing options.

Application and use of the Z-06 and Z-19 bridges

One size does not fit all. It is not generally possible to fit a miniture adults frame to a child and maintain and effective optical correction. Fitting accuracy and stability are paramount for lens performance. Our Z-06 and Z-19 bridges are designed to be effective in a range of dispensing situations, from facial characteristics to myopia management.

Our unique Z-06 and Z-19 pad designs enhance and lift frames to a new standard, expanding your dispensing range. Lens shape is important, by increasing the visual zone above the horizontal centre line we increase the field of view for the wearer.

Adjustments – Versatile Fit 2025 sides

Our new 2025 versatile sides feature an adjustment range of 70 to 100mm LTB and 80 to 110mm LTT

Extending the sides to the maximal length will in normal development, cover all child dispensing for ages to 14 years. iPlay versatile sides can be easily trimmed and the ear tip securely reattached to fit typically developed children as young as 5 years.

Tip: UK customers can ask for bespoke fitting and adjustment from the agent. No need to spend your time adjusting the frame, we will do it for you at no extra charge

To adjust follow our guide below or watch our YouTube video HERE and discover the adjustable benefits of our NEW design sides

1. Remove the screw from the tip using the iPlay 1.6mm cross head screwdriver

2. Using slight force, pull the tip away from the side

Tip: iPlay ViBES sides have moderate locking friction, applying a little heat may be necessary to release the tip

3. Refit the tip to the side. ViBES sides can be extended or shortened within the manufacturing parameters

Tip: It is a requirement to refit the tip screw with ViBES sides. The stud lock provides moderate fail safe resistance

Adjustments – iPlay Original Range Stud Lock Sides

iPlay Original range Stud Lock sides are available in 2 lengths

Please check the frame discriptions to see which length sides are fitted

118mm, adjustment range 70 to 82mm LTB and 80 to 92mm LTT

130mm, adjustment range 83 to 95mm LTB and 93 to 105mm LTT

They feature our unique double stud lock system. This design principle increases the resistance between the sides and comfort tip material. In order to release this resistance, moderate heat needs to be applied to the tip to adjust the length

Tip: UK customers can ask for bespoke fitting and adjustment from the agent. No need to spend your time adjusting the frame, we will do it for you at no extra charge

To adjust follow our guide below

1. Remove screw from tip using the iPlay 1.6mm cross head screwdriver

2. Apply moderate heat to the tip and pull apart from the side

Tip: iPlay Original sides are secured by friction locking. Moderate heat will be required to soften the tip, to part it easily from the side

3. Apply moderate heat to the tip and insert the side to the desired length

Tip: iPlay Original sides do not require the screw to be refitted as the double stud locks act as a compression fitting.
